18. Hiap Joo Bakery
This is a shop located at Jalan Tan Hiok Nee. It has been there since 1919 and is going to have a history about 100 years. The most special thing about this shop is that they still keep the tradition of wood ovens. This is the secret to the fragrance of their toast buns and banana cake. There is always a long queue in front of the small shop, especially when buns and banana cakes are out of the oven.
We managed to grab a packet of kaya toast bun freshly made out of the oven while it's still hot. One packet consist of 4 buns and inside of it, is the rich kaya filling. The thing that we like the most of the bun is the springy and soft texture that makes it super delicious! We can taste the coconut milk inside the Kaya and the sweetness of it. For those who have yet to visit this bakery, we highly recommend you to come. The queue is even worth it for the delicious buns and banana cakes!
